the opportunities we have are tremendous

we haven’t seen this rate of change in computing

for a long time

probably not since the birth of personal computing

and when i think about it

i think we’re all here because we share at deep sense of optimism

about the potential

of technology to improve people’s lives

in the world

…

and i’m amazed

every day i come to work

the list of things that needs to be done is longer than the day before

the opportunity of those things is bigger

now than it was before

and because of that i think we as google

and as an industry — all of you

really are only at one percent of what’s possible

probably even less than that

and despite the faster change we have in the industry

we’re still moving slow relative to the opportunities that we have

and some of that i think is due to the negativity

— in every story i read about google

is us versus some other company

or some other stupid thing

and i just don’t find that very interesting

because we should be building great things that don’t exist

and being negative is not how we make progress

and most important things are not zero sum

there’s a lot of opportunity out there

and we can use technology to make really new, and really important things

that make people’s lives better
